How To Clean Dishwasher Effectively? Tip 1 – Clean the Filters
The filter consists of three parts: the main filter (small food particles are usually retained in this part to prevent food scraps from falling into the drain), the fine filter basket (which collects food residues and dirt), and the coarse filter screen (which traps larger food pieces).
When cleaning, you need to clean all three parts regularly, at least once a week. After each dishwasher cycle, check the filters and remove any large food debris to prevent drain blockages.
To remove the filters for cleaning, turn the entire filter assembly counterclockwise from the machine’s body, then lift the filter assembly, unscrew the coarse filter screen from the fine filter basket, and finally remove the fine filter basket from the main filter (as shown in the image above).
Invert the filter components to shake loose any food particles, then place the parts under a strong stream of water and use a soft brush for cleaning.
Avoid tapping the filters during cleaning to prevent denting and reducing the machine’s performance.
Once you’ve cleaned the filters, reassemble them, and place them back into the dishwasher, pressing firmly to ensure they are securely in place.
How To Clean Dishwasher Effectively? Tip 2 – Clean the Dishwasher Interior
Users can use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe the control panel, then use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it again for a clean control panel.
For the interior of the dishwasher, if there is minimal dirt, you can also use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning. In cases of heavy dirt or dried-on residue, dilute a cleaning agent with water, immerse a soft cloth in the solution, and scrub the inside of the machine thoroughly. Use a soft brush for cleaning stubborn dirt.
Users should also pull out the lower rack, inspect the drain area, and clean around it to ensure there are no foreign objects obstructing the drain or causing damage to dishes.
Regarding the dishwasher door, use a soft cloth to wipe the edges of the door. Avoid using spray-type cleaning agents as they may seep into the door lock, electrical components, potentially causing damage, and posing a safety risk to users.
Experts recommend not using dishwasher detergent for cleaning as it generates a lot of suds, making dishwasher cleaning time-consuming.
Use a polishing wax to shine the machine’s exterior. Avoid using sharp objects, metal scrubbers, or abrasive cleaning agents as they can damage the dishwasher’s surface.
How To Clean Dishwasher Effectively? Tip 3 – Clean the Spray Arm
When cleaning the spray arm, remove it (the water spray fan) and clean it in warm soapy water or vinegar diluted with warm water. Use a soft brush to gently scrub the spray nozzles or use a toothpick to clear any clogs in the nozzles. Afterward, rinse it with clean water and reinstall it in the machine.
If you find that the spray arm doesn’t rotate smoothly after reinstalling it, there may still be dirt on the spray arm. In that case, remove it and clean it again.
How To Clean Dishwasher Effectively? Tip 4 – Clean dishwasher with vinegar and baking soda
To eliminate odors from the dishwasher, place a cup of white vinegar in the top rack and run a cycle with the highest temperature setting. Do not load any dishes during this cycle. The vinegar will effectively remove odors and sanitize the machine.
If you don’t have vinegar, you can pour a cup of baking soda into the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short cycle. This will also help remove stains and odors.
To enhance odor removal, you can apply both of the above tips simultaneously.
